Research for
a better life

Our centre creates an environment where top surgeons can conduct experiments to advance their research interest

Nowadays, patients want to be active and wish to live as best as possible after knee replacement surgery – to continue to garden, to play sports or to easily handle their daily activities. The demand for better, higher performing knee implants is growing.

That is why Smith & Nephew has established a research lab in Leuven, Belgium, to look for new and better ways to address this demand. Our new facility showcases knee products such as JOURNEY™BCS, GENESIS II™, PROFIX™, along with the research and development processes that helped bring them to the market.

Visiting surgeons can learn and take advantage of hands-on training, product training and medical education programmes.

Our centre creates an environment where top surgeons can conduct experiments to advance their research interest and we hope the cross-fertilization between industry and university provides us with increased understanding of the knee kinematics.

Oversight for the research at the centre will be provided by a Scientific Advisory Board.
